The City of Cranbrook says large concerts, festivals, shows, and community events at Western Financial Place (WFP) are not only providing entertainment for residents but also generating increased revenue for the city.

City officials say the recent monster truck event was a prime example.

“Bringing in nearly 550 cubic metres of dirt sourced from the College of the Rockies 30th Avenue Road project, the trucks were a ‘Monster’ success with nearly 5,500 attendees across the three days of shows generating a net revenue of $24,999,” said the City.

The monster truck show was the first of its kind in WFP since 2009.

“The community has proven once again that live entertainment and large events are welcome with great support from the local community,” said Trevor Thors, Director of Recreation and Culture.

”The total profit from the event was just about $50,000 shared equally with the City of Cranbrook and partner Saskatchewan Entertainment Group.”

Since 2023, Cranbrook has hosted 12 large-scale events in WFP, raking in $162,144 in revenue and over 30,000 locals, tourists, and patrons.

The most profitable event in WFP in recent years was Rock the Kootenays 2024, bringing in $99,879 in net revenue for the City.

“Hands down, a huge shout-out is deserved to our staff and community volunteers who support us making these events a massive success,” said Thors.

Cranbrook’s Recreation and Culture department says they will continue to bring in more large, profitable, and sustainable special events to WFP.
