The College of the Rockies Avalanche have a new Head Coach for their Women’s Volleyball team, hiring Bryan Fraser ahead of the 2019/2020 season.
Fraser is taking over the job from John Swanson, who previously served as the Women’s Volleyball Head Coach from 2015 to 2019, and helped the College of the Rockies win its first PACWEST Championship in 2016.
“I want to thank John for his dedication to the Avalanche program over the past four years,” said Cori Andrichuk, Manager, Student Life and Athletics.
“I am excited to welcome Bryan to the Avalanche family,” added Cori Andrichuk. “We look forward to continuing to build a great women’s program at College of the Rockies with him at the helm.”
Growing up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Fraser would play five years at the University of Saskatchewan before spending a full year at the Volleyball Canada training centre. Spending two summers with the Canadian National B Team, Fraser would eventually move on to play professional volleyball in Europe.
From his playing experience, Fraser transitioned to coaching a Division 3 Women’s team in the Netherlands, serving as an Assistant Coach with Team Saskatchewan and also serving as the Head Coach of the Canadian Men’s Under-17 Team.
“I am extremely excited to begin my coaching career in the PACWEST with the Avalanche Women’s Team,” said Fraser. “They have an outstanding academic program, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help build a competitive team on the court.”
The College of the Rockies Avalanche will officially open their PACWEST season at home on Friday, October 18th against the Douglas College Royals.
