Cranbrook council will be contemplating a hike to development application fees.
City staff say the current fees for OCP or zoning amendments range between $1,200 and $1,600.
However, as part of the notification process the city is legislated to put ads in the local paper and use direct mailing.
The average cost for a single ad is $540 and the city generally is required to have two ads for combined applications.
City staff say they recover $200 to $600, but that is significantly less than the amount of staff time and resources required to process the applications including multiple meetings, report and bylaw preparation, public notices and internal referrals.
Staff have been updating fess structures recently as many of the city’s fees haven’t been updated in some time.
The development application fees haven’t been changed since 2011.
Staff are recommending a Tier 2 increase that could hike fees up by 100 per cent.
With a Tier 2 approach the city would have increased the 2024 income by approximately $183,000.
