UPDATE (Mar 21, 2025): Police officials say the suspect was apprehended on Thursday afternoon.

ORIGINAL STORY (March 20, 2025): Cranbrook RCMP is urging the public to keep an eye out for a suspect who was behind an assault and vehicle theft.

Police officials say the detachment received a call shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, reporting a violent assault at a car dealership in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue North.

The man fled on foot before police arrived and stole a white Toyota Highlander with Oregon license plates.

Police say the vehicle was found abandoned at around 8:30 a.m. near the intersection of 3rd Street South and 6th Avenue South.

Those in the area near the abandoned stolen vehicle should check their property.

“The Cranbrook RCMP further request residents review personal security video for the period between 8:20 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and contact police should the suspect be observed on a recording,” said police officials.

The man is described as standing between 5’8″ and 5’10″ with an average build.

Police say he was last seen wearing green pants and a black Carhart-style button-up jacket with a hood.

Any information can be reported to their local police, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471.
