Demolition work at the former Kootenay Springs building will close traffic along 6th Street North West on Friday as the job reaches completion.
The road will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as crews wrap up demolition and removal work.
Drivers needing to access Symmetry Dental, 7-11, Money Mart, or Burger King will need to use the right-hand, westbound lane of Highway 3/95.
The eastbound turn lane along Highway 3/95 will be closed to traffic.
ʔaq’am Flagging and Safety will manage traffic control, and drivers are asked to obey all signs and worksite staff.
“Demo work at the site began two weeks ago on March 3, 2025, on the northeast side of the Kootenay Springs property near Affordable Auto Glass and wraps up at 6th Street NW on the south side of the property near the 7-11 store,” said city staff.
The 100-year-old building has been abandoned since 2005 and a fire in 2020 weakened the structure, making the building a safety risk.
