Public hearing set for proposed commercial and residential development

Cranbrook residents will have the chance to express their opinions on a proposed commercial building and apartment complex.

Bluebox Developments Corporation has provided an application to the city for a 37-unit apartment complex  and a commercial building an Automotive Glass Repair shop.

The apartment building would be accessed from Kootenay Street North, while the commercial shop would be accessed from Cranbrook Street North.

The residential build would consist of one bedroom apartments and one three-bedroom suite.

“It’s gone undeveloped for some time and this would be an opportunity for the city to allow more residential inventory,” said community planner Conor Britton.

He says the location lends itself to this type of build.

“It’s a good area for that sort of development as it’s close to the downtown, highway commercial corridor and other high density residences,” he said.

The public hearing is scheduled for Mar. 24 at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
