Sparwood’s pool will be closed for an extended period of time as the district addresses water loss issues.
District staff say water loss at the pool has been an issue for years but it has reached an unsustainable level.
The cause is believed to be from underwater lights and speakers that are no longer operational.
The pool will be closed from Mar. 28 to April 1 to drain the pool and remove and assess the light and speaker.
“Council is very aware of what an important and valued amenity our pool is to the community, and that’s why it is critical that we focus on proper maintenance and repairs to preserve the long-term sustainability of our aquatic facilities,” said mayor David Wilks.
“As with any infrastructure of this age and the known challenges with water loss from the pool, Council has anticipated and budgeted for this work to be done. We understand that it is never an ideal situation to have to close the pool, but doing the work now will prevent the problems from worsening, which in turn, could require higher costs and longer closures to repair.”
The district is also moving up its annual maintenance from June to April 15.
It will remain closed until June 29.
District staff say it will give them enough time properly address the water loss issues and complete the regular pool maintenance.
The playschool, fitness centre, courts and climbing wall will remain open as normal.
