Cranbrook’s Bowen Byram has made it through the 2025 NHL Trade deadline unscathed.
The trade deadline is the final day where teams can swap players and picks before the playoffs.
While Byram’s name was brought up, the Buffalo Sabres ultimately decided not to trade him.
Byram’s current contract is expiring at the end of the season, where he’ll become a restricted free agent (RFA).
RFAs can only be offered contracts from their current team and the team has the option of signing a one year qualifying offer for the same dollar amount as the player’s current contract.
While Byram is staying put, the Sabres did make a blockbuster trade with the Ottawa Senators.
The Sabres traded Dylan Cozens and Dennis Gilbert for Josh Norris and Jacob Bernard-Docker.
Ottawa also received a second-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
