Interior Health and Environment Canada has issued a dust advisory for Sparwood due to high concentrations of coarse particulate matter.
IH officials say the high concentration is likely to persists until there is precipitation, dust suppression or a change in traffic patterns.
Levels are the highest around busy roads and industrial operations.
IH officials say the exposure is particularly a concern for individuals with chronic conditions such as asthma, COPD, heart disease and diabetes.
People with respiratory infections such as COVID-19, pregnant women, infants and older adults are also at a higher risk.
Anyone experiencing continuing eye or throat irritation, chest discomfort, shortness of breath, cough or wheezing should consult their health care provider.
