Cranbrook council has given three readings to a bylaw that would close part of Corbett Road.
“Corbett road is the name of the road that accesses the old landfill on Highway 95A,” said engineering and development services manager Curtis Penson.
“Most of the road is actually unconstructed and currently gated and has been for many years.”
The purpose of the road closure is to amalgamate the lands to 4000 Hwy 95A and subdivide the parcel into two. Penson says one lot will be for future development land and the other being the old landfill.
The city is conducting environmental studies to have the land cleared for development.
The new access to the development land is proposed to be a new leg of the Echo Field Road and Highway 95A intersection, so the unfinished portion of Corbett Road is not needed.
The bylaw has been sent for Ministry of Transportation approval and will be up for council approval after that.
