Sparwood budget meeting set for next Tuesday

The District of Sparwood is inviting residents to a budget road show and budget open house next week.

The road show will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Greenwood Mall on Mar. 11, while the open house is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. at council chambers.

Council members will be in attendance to provide information and answer questions.

Sparwood is looking at a 7.5 per cent tax increase this year.

District staff say a bulk of the increase is to keep up with regular inflation, but policing and recreation reserve funds are part of it as well.

Residents will also see a $100 sewer parcel tax increase due to the waste water treatment plant project.

A home valued at $500,000 would see a total increase of $211.77.

The five year financial plan must be adopted by May 15.
