Fairmont firefighters take down early morning structure fire

Members of the Fairmont Fire Department took down a structure fire that fully engulfed a building at 4:35 a.m. Tuesday morning.

“Callers reported a fully involved structure fire in the Mountainside area of Fairmont,” said Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Drew Sinclair.

“Upon arrival, the vacant building was found to be a total loss and firefighters immediately focused their efforts on defensive actions to protect a neighbouring building and prevent the fire from getting into surrounding trees.”

The Fairmont Fire Department responded with 10 members and three pieces of apparatus along with support from BC Hydro and Columbia Valley RCMP.

Firefighters took down the fire and any remaining hot spots and turned the site over to the property management company later that morning.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
