The Columbia Valley Rockies are expecting some bumps and bruises in the first round of the playoffs as they get set to face the Fernie Ghostriders.

Head coach Tayler Sincennes says the team has grown a lot over the course of the season and are ready to do some damage.

“There were tons of highs and lows this year with ups and downs in different parts of the season. The group has come together nicely here, practices are excellent and the tempos high,” he said.

“Everyone is pretty excited and geared up to head to Fernie on Friday. It’s going to be a grind and hopefully the fans enjoy it.”

The two teams were close all season long and split their season series.

Sincennes says he’s expecting games to continue to be tight in the first round.

“We went 3-3 with each other during the regular season so I think it’s going to be a battle. It will be hard heavy hockey and there isn’t going to be a whole lot of free ice available,” he added.

“There will be lots of shot blocks, finishing checks and everybody is going to leave every game with ice packs on their shoulders and knees.”

Game 1 is in Fernie on Friday. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
