The Kimberley Dynamiters are getting ready for round one of the 2024/25 playoffs after earning the top spot in the Eddie Mountain Division.
Head coach Derek Stuart says he’s proud of what the team accomplished in the regular season and new they had a good shot of getting the No. 1 seed.
“The first half was a little bit up and down. I think it took our guys a little while to settle in and form some chemistry,” he said.
“I really liked how we finished the last three months of the season and our goal is to always win the division and I think it was after December 1st that we really felt that was obtainable.”
They will be facing the Creston Valley Thunder Cats in the first round.
Stuart says the Thunder Cats are a better team then their record shows.
They have a couple really elite players in Liam Monroe and Chase Bambrick. They are guys we really have to be aware of and pay attention to,” he added.
“They are not a typical fourth placed team so it’s important for us to not take them for granted and focus one game at a time.”
Since they were the top team in the Eddie Mountain Division, the Nitros will have home ice advantage.
Stuart says that is a big advantage with their home record this season.
“For us it’s really important. We only lost twice in regulation at home and that is part of the reward for finishing first in the division,” he said.
“We’re pretty darn good at home so that should be an advantage for us.”
Game 1 is on Friday in Kimberley at 7 p.m.
