East Kootenay transit services transferred to PWTransit Canada

All East Kootenay transit services will soon be operated by PWTransit Canada, including fixed route, handyDART, Health Connections and Paratransit.

BC Transit says PWTransit Canada Ltd. will take the contract over from NextGen Transit Inc. through an assignment agreement.

This will include services in the Columbia Valley, Cranbrook, Creston, Elk Valley and Kimberley.

“The most important thing for customers to know is that nothing will change in the services they get,” said Jamie Weiss, BC Transit Spokesperson.

“All schedules routes and fares will remain the same. The way you take the bus now will not change after March 1.”

Weiss says all active bus passes will seamlessly transfer when service providers switch.

All unionized NextGen Transit employees working in the region will be offered comparable roles with PWTransit Canada.

“Both operating companies have been really great about communicating with us and each other,” said Weiss.

“We’re looking forward to seeing this next chapter of PWTransit Canada and we really appreciate the work of NextGen Transit over their years in the East Kootenay region.”

PWTransit will take over operations on March 1, with the agreement to expire on March 31, 2030.
