The City of Cranbrook has approved an additional $60,000 for emergency repairs to a Western Financial Place boiler.

The facility has two 3.3 million BTU boilers, which operate the domestic hot water, building heat and pool heating.

“We had our annual inspection done and found a pinhole leak after the inspection was done, said recreation and culture director Trevor Thors.

“We thought a repair was possible but it turned out it wasn’t.”

A Glycol leak was also found and two main Glycol pumps need replacing.

The city had approved nearly $330,000 back in September for a replacement but the Glycol leak has added to the cost.

Council approved an additional $30,000 for the pump replacement and an overage of $30,000, all to come out of the facilities reserve.
