Two successful grants have helped the city of Cranbrook create four new climate-related policies.

The city has created a community buildings greenhouse gas reduction study, a fleet asset management and use policy, a fleet electrification plan and a community electric vehicle charging plan.

“I want to acknowledge and thank our staff for their work in securing this funding and thank them for maintaining the City’s focus on both corporate and community climate action,” said Mayor Wayne Price.

The fleet asset management and use policy will help guide the city, as they look to electrify their vehicles over time.

“It was a review of all of the city’s fleet and how moving forward we can consider fleet electrification,” said project manager Katelyn Pocha.

With the use of electric vehicles increasing, the community electric vehicle charging plan will help find suitable locations for new charging infrastructure.

“It provides a road map with both city and private locations that could be ideal for EV chargers in the future as EVs get more use and are seen more in the community,” Pocha added.
