Wardner woman killed in head-on crash near Cranbrook

Police are seeking witnesses to a head-on crash that left a woman from Wardner dead and two men injured on Tuesday.

BC Highway Patrol officials say the crash happened just before 6 p.m. along Highway 3 and 93, about 15 kilometres east of Cranbrook.

According to police, a 2015 Dodge pickup truck with Alberta plates attempted to pass a semi-truck and collided head-on with a Pontiac Vibe.

The Pontiac’s driver, a 62-year-old woman from Wardner did not survive the crash, while the two men inside the Dodge were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The highway was closed for a few hours while first responders and investigators were on the scene.

“While the cause of this collision is still under investigation, we are urging drivers to slow down, drive sober, and drive without distractions,” said Inspector Chad Badry, the Officer in Charge of BC Highway Patrol Kootenay region.

Anyone who witnessed or had dashcam footage of the crash or the driving behaviour of the Dodge leading up to the collision is asked to contact the BC Highway Patrol in Cranbrook at 250-420-4244 and refer to file number 2025-373.
