Mainroad East Kootenay is expecting a busy schedule in the days ahead, particularly in the Elk Valley, with region-wide snowfall in the forecast.
Mainroad says its crews are already out pre-treating the highways ahead of the anticipated snow dump starting on Thursday night.
The Elk Valley is expected to get hit the hardest, with snowfall expected to be 3cm on Thursday, ramping up to 15cm on Friday.
The snow will likely continue into the weekend with another 10cm on Saturday and five more centimetres on Sunday. Mainroad says the snow should taper off on Monday.
The Cranbrook area is likely going to get off a little easier, with light snowfall over the coming days.
Mainroad predicts less than 1cm of snow to fall on Thursday, up to 3cm on Friday and another 3cm on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Yahk will get about 3cm of snow on Thursday and up to 10cmto drop on Friday, along with the possibility of some rainfall.
Saturday will likely have up to 5cm of snow accumulation with another 5cm on Sunday.
In the Columbia Valley, snowfall will begin on Friday with up to 3cm of snowfall.
Snowfall will continue into the weekend with up to 4cm on Saturday and 5cm on Sunday.
Motorists are urged to drive with caution, prepare ahead and give Mainroad vehicles plenty of space to work safely.
