The City of Cranbrook has received Milestone 4 recognition from the Partners for Climate Protection Program (PCP) for continued efforts in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The city has been partners with PCP since 2017.

The program uses a five-milestone framework to help create and implement greenhouse gas reduction action plans at the community level.

Because the city reached Milestone 4, they were recognized by both the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Local Governments for Sustainability Canada.

“The efforts that all of our staff and departments have made it possible for the City to achieve this Milestone 4 recognition and on behalf of council I want to thank them for this important work,” said Mayor Wayne Price.

City staff said the recognition was achieved through a number of their recent initiatives.

That includes the completion of an active transportation plan, regional transit study and e-scooter program.

The city was also recognized for optimizing HVAC systems, transitioning to electric vehicles and advancing FireSmart education.

The city will be working on reaching Milestone 5 which involves monitoring and reporting results from the city’s climate projects.
