City approves budget increase after emergency dam repairs

Cranbrook council has approved a budget increase of $63,119.01 after emergency repairs had to be made to the Gold Creek Dam.

“In late October staff noticed some stress on the structure that allows us to operate the control valve that is in the dam,” said roads and infrastructure manager Curtis Mummery.

“Upon inspection of that, they were not able to operate it anymore so we had to complete some emergency repairs to make the dam functional again.”

He says the repairs were necessary to maintain the dam operations and they will allow for easier operation going forward.

The work for the repair was completed in mid-November and the final bill was totaled in December 2024.

The money came from the city’s water capital reserve.
