RDEK board chair Rob Gay is hopeful some new trail projects will be getting off the ground this year.
“Our trail program has been very successful and we have new trails going in in Fernie and some in Jaffray, the Cranbrook community forest and big plans for two or three big trails in the Columbia Valley,” Gay added.
“I think we’ll see those move forward in 2025.”
He says expanding the trail network is good for tourists and residents alike.
“A lot of residents want to come to the Kootenays,” he said.
“We have a lot of different things for tourists and our residents.”
The RDEK has also been investing in trail connectivity.
Back in October, the district helped secure funding for design work on a path that connects the City of Fernie and the ski hill.
Construction on this project is expected to begin either this year or in 2026.
