After launching a 19U women’s team in 2024, the Purcell Hockey Academy has announced plans to add a second team.
The 19U team has had a strong season so far and four players made IIHF World Championship rosters.
“This year we launched a 19U female program. It’s been really successful for us,” said Purcell Collegiate head of school and CEO Duncan MacLeod.
“We have several girls overseas playing for their respective countries in different tiers of the IIHF World Championships.”
Alejandra Radcliffe will represent Mexico IHF U18 Women’s World Championship Div. II later this month while Flóra Pásztor and Boglárka Báhiczki are currently representing Hungary in the Div. I World Championships.
Goaltender Anja Poulsen is playing for team Denmark and registered a shutout in the team’s 6-0 win yesterday.
Due to the success of the program so far, Purcell Hockey Academy will be adding a 16U team.
“We’re excited to announce that we’re expanding from one 19U team to two teams,” MacLeod added.
“We will have a 16U as well which will create more opportunities for local girls.”
The new team as well as the new partnership with the Buck’s Kootenay Hockey Academy are slated to begin in September.
