Keith Page, Kallee Lins vying for federal NDP nomination in new Kootenay riding

Nelson City Councillor Keith Page and West Kootenay Regional Arts Council Executive Director Kallee Lins are vying to become the NDP nominee for the new Columbia–Kootenay–Southern Rockies riding in the 2025 federal election.

The new Columbia–Kootenay–Southern Rockies riding, according to Elections Canada, comprises the following communities, Regional Districts and electoral areas:

  • The Regional District of East Kootenay
  • Parts of the Regional District of Central Kootenay, including Electoral Areas A, B, C, D, E, F, and G
  • The City of Nelson
  • The Town of Creston
  • Creston Indian Reserve No. 1
  • Parts of the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary, including Electoral Area A and part of Electoral Area B (Lower Columbia–Old Glory) lying east of the City of Trail and Goodeve Creek
  • The City of Trail

Page and Lins are set to debate in Trail on Saturday, January 11, to help decide who will represent the federal NDP in the new riding. The debate begins at 5 p.m. at the Trail Skills Centre, located at 1060 Eldorado Street.

Then, on February 27, NDP members in the riding will cast their votes in the nomination race. To vote in the nomination race, memberships must be purchased by January 13, 2025.

Memberships will be available for purchase at the debate. The next federal election will take place no later than October 20, 2025.
