Kimberley will lay some pipe in 2025, specifically water and sewer lines, as the city is set to continue making progress on its infrastructure renewal.

Mayor Don McCormick says this has been an ongoing effort over several years.

“We have been talking about this for probably a decade or more, but I think residents have seen that we have made excellent progress on replacing pipes in the ground and bringing our roads into much better condition,” said McCormick.

“With much of those core infrastructure projects, I think we’ve done a pretty good job on them.”

However, McCormick says Kimberley’s facilities have continued to fall behind.

“With City Hall, the Fire Hall, the Civic Centre and the Curling Rink, if you take a look at the facilities the city owns, most of them are in need of repair or replacement – dire need in some cases,” said McCormick.

“We haven’t really looked at anything to look at that in the infrastructure renewal front. That’s going to be one of our biggest challenges in 2025: getting the inventory, getting the assessments and figuring out how we move forward with our facility assets.”

In November, Kimberley adjusted its budget for the Civic Centre/Curling Rink chiller and compressor upgrades in hopes of accessing more grant opportunities in 2025.

Kimberley will also make progress on the new and forthcoming wastewater treatment plant.

No construction dates have been set, but McCormick is hopeful for shovels to be in the ground sometime this summer.
