Sparwood gearing up for annual Chip or Burn event

The Sparwood Fire Department is getting ready to host the annual Chip or Burn event to dispose of the community’s Christmas trees.

Sparwood officials say the family-friendly event will include hot chocolate and fire safety demonstrations.

The Fire Department will also collect donations for Muscular Dystrophy at the event.

You can drop your tree off at Fire Hall #2 any time before January 11, bring it to the evening of the event or you can remove all of the tinsel and leave it at your curb for pickup.

If you want your tree picked up by Public Works, you must leave it out on the curb by 8 a.m. on Monday, January 6, with intermittent pickup to go ahead throughout the week.

You can also drop them off at the Sparwood Heights and Lower Sparwood compost locations if you do not wish to participate in the Chip or Burn event.

The event will go ahead on Saturday, January 11 at 7 p.m. at the Outdoor Rink along Ponderosa Drive.

Trees under six inches in diameter will be chipped, while trees over six inches in diameter will be burned.
