The Columbia Valley Rockies head coach says the team needs to last one more weekend before getting too into the Christmas spirit.

Head coach Tayler Sincennes says they can’t be distracted and need to come out strong on Friday.

“Our big emphasis this week and going into the weekend is to not start looking at the Christmas break too early,” he said.

“Those points still matter and they are just as important the day before you go home for Christmas. Staying in the moment, present and staying locked in for this weekend to give ourselves an opportunity to try and get two wins this weekend. We’re still here and Christmas break doesn’t start until the 22nd.”

The Rockies are set to play the Creston Valley Thunder Cats on Friday followed by the Golden Rockets.

The Rockies are coming off of a weekend win against Creston defeating them 3-1, however, they could get the job against the Fernie Ghostriders.

“I thought we started slow in both games on the weekend but got better as they went on. Our level through 45 or 50 minutes of those games was really good,” Sincennes added.

“We had a good push against Fernie. I thought we outplayed them in the third but they found a way to win.”

The Rockies are heading into the last weekend before the Christmas break with a 16-12 record for third in the Eddie Mountain Division.
