South Country Fire Department members took down a house fire in Jaffray on Saturday afternoon.
The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) say 10 firefighters responded to the call, however, the fire was mostly extinguished by the time crews arrived. But it had spread into the building’s roof.
“The homeowners took quick action and had the fire out when we arrived; however, our crews remained on scene to ensure the fire had not spread and that it was fully extinguished,” said Elk Valley and South Country Rural Fire & Rescue Chief Michael Hockley.
“While the homeowners had pulled back the roof, these fires can be complex as they can extend into areas that aren’t visible, so our crews worked diligently to ensure the fire hadn’t spread further.”
The RDEK says the fire was quickly contained, but it still did extensive damage to the home’s roof and trusses.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials do not consider it to be suspicious in nature.
