Ghostriders get set for important matches against Rockies

The Fernie Ghostriders will look to pass the Columbia Valley Rockies in the standings with the two teams meeting twice this week.

The teams are tied for second place in the Eddie Mountain Division with 30 points although the Ghostriders have four games in hand.

They will meet on Tuesday night in Fernie followed by a rematch in Invermere on Friday.

“We’re excited for the challenge,” said head coach Chad Scharff.

“For us, it’s about finishing into the Christmas break with a strong push and continuing to build into what we’ve done over the course of the last couple of weeks.”

The Ghostriders are coming off a successful weekend which started with a 4-3 win over the Sicmaous Eagles.

“To be able to snap Sicamous’ six-game win streak was a good thing for our group,” Scharff added.

They then lost a close game to the Revelstoke Grizzlies 4-3 in a shootout.

Scharff says they can’t be too upset about losing to the best team in the league in a shootout.

“We got out to the start we wanted with a 3-0 lead but they scored with 22 seconds left in the first which gave them some life on their teddy-bear toss night and credit to them they are a good team and stuck with it,” he said.

“I think it was the battle of the two best teams right now.”

The Ghostriders are also set to play the Castlegar Rebels on Saturday.
