Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour to make a stop in Cranbrook

The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour is set to make a stop in Cranbrook, showcasing achievements in outdoor storytelling and filmmaking.

The world tour has stops planned in about 550 communities across 40 countries.

“The films touch on everything from outdoor adventure sports, environmental issues and overall outdoor storytelling,” said Robyn Skare, Communications and Fundraising Coordinator for Wildsight Kimberley/Cranbrook.

“It’s a great opportunity for Cranbrook and Kimberley locals to experience this level of world-class filmmaking. We live in these mountainous communities, so the locals here tend to be very connected to the types of films that come on the world tour.”

Wildsight says over 400 film entries are submitted to the film festival each year, and award-winners and audience favourites are among those chosen to play in theatres around the world.

Skare says Wildsight has been a long-time organizer of the Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour’s showcase in Cranbrook, with proceeds going to fund their operations.

“We have been organizing and hosting this event for well over 30 years,” said Skare.

“It’s our largest annual fundraiser every year. It supports our local programs like Forest Nature School, Apple Capture and Backyard Farmers among others.”

The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour will be in Cranbrook on January 3 and 4 and you can get tickets from the Key City Theatre Box Office online, over the phone or in person for $30 per night or $50 for a weekend pass.
