Cranbrook’s Western Financial Place will get some upgrades to its outdated security system this week.
Cranbrook officials say the work will go ahead on Tuesday and Thursday, using a phased-in approach.
Work will include new security cameras and walking access cards personalized to each user.
City officials say concourse users must take a few steps to maintain their access.
“All walking users must sign a waiver and obtain their own personal walking access card. Walkers will need to stop by the pool service desk to get a new walking card,” said city officials.
“These cards will be pre-activated and will be assigned to the individual in the system.”
New and renewed memberships will cost $10 for an annual pass, with existing users granted some extra leeway.
“Everyone who currently has a walking pass will be grandfathered into the new system for one year. After that time, the walking passes will become an annual fee to utilize the concourse,” said Cranbrook officials.
If you lose your card, you will need to pay a replacement fee to activate a new one.
“With security and safety at the center of our operations, the new system will be key to our safety strategy as well as our proactive loss prevention strategy,” said Trevor Thors, Director of Recreation and Culture.
“It will allow for ease of management, seamless integrations and to conduct observations in a more scalable way.”
As the facility adjusts to the new system, there may be a delay in walking card distribution.
“There may also be some minor disruptions to access to the concourse during the installation period,” said the City.
“We apologize for any inconvenience or confusion this may cause in the short term as we move to the new access system.”
