Cranbrook city council gave the first reading to the Official Community Plan and the public can share their opinions until Dec. 9.
The OCP is the city’s main document that guides strategic decision-making in all aspects of land use planning, growth, development and community building.
Planning manager Rob Veg says it’s been almost 20 years since the last OCP was created.
“Our last OCP was developed in 2006 so here we are almost 2026. A lot has changed in Cranbrook since that time and continues to change,” he said.
“The OCP is a living document and always will be a living document. It can be opened, amended and changed as much as we need.”
The city has launched an overview summary of the document for those not wanting to read the full 300 pages.
“It outlines what an OCP is, how we got here, the vision, the guiding principles and some of the new features of the OCP versus what we had in the last one,” Veg added.
Written public input can be given to city hall by drop-in mail or email.
