The City of Fernie will be shifting to bi-weekly garbage collection in December.
Garbage collection will occur on Thursdays with Area 1 residents having their first date on Dec. 5 and Area 2 residents on Dec. 12.
City staff say the bi-weekly collection is to encourage the use of the organics and recycling carts to continue using the existing RDEK landfill for longer.
Days for organics collection are shifting.
Area 1 will be collected on Tuesdays and Area 2 will be picked up on Wednesdays.
