BC Conservative MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke Scott McInnis will serve as the Shadow Minister for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.
“I’m tremendously honoured to be entrusted with this file from John Rustad and the Conservative Party,” said McInnis.
“Reconciliation is a forefront issue in this province moving forward and I’m excited to be a part of the solutions over the coming term in the legislature.”
McInnis says he is eager to serve in his new role.
“Throughout my campaigning, I was fortunate to build tremendous relationships with the First Nations and Métis communities. I look forward to expanding those relationships moving forward,” said McInnis.
“As an educator, understanding the role of truth and reconciliation is an important topic to share with young people because it’s going to be a forefront issue over the next decade as we move through this process of meaningful reconciliation.”
McInnis says he will work with the BC NDP where he can.
“Wherever possible, I look forward to working collaboratively with the Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation,” said McInnis.
“The Conservative Party’s stance is that we want to see economic reconciliation brought to the forefront. This is a mandate in our calls to action and UNDRIP (United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples). We want to see some positive progression when it comes to economic self-determination for First Nations in this province.”
Meanwhile, Kootenay-Rockies MLA Pete Davis will serve as the Conservative Party’s Shadow Minister for Mining, Critical Minerals and Columbia Treaty.
