Environment Canada predicts almost a foot of snow to bury the Elk Valley over the weekend as a fall storm is expected to sweep through the region.
The forecaster has placed a snowfall warning on the region as 20 to 30 centimetres (7.8 to 11.8 inches) of snow is expected to blanket the region over the coming days.
“Another fall storm is expected to affect southern BC beginning this morning [Friday],” said Environment Canada.
“The system is forecast to remain offshore over the next few days, with associated bands of precipitation bringing between 20 to 30 cm of snow to the Elk Valley region by Sunday morning.”
The heaviest snowfall is expected to come late Friday, with the highest accumulation expected near Fernie and Morrissey.
The City of Fernie is preparing to handle the snow and keep the community’s streets as safe as possible.
Drivers are asked to use off-street parking whenever possible, obey any posted signs if street parking is necessary or follow the Alternating Parking Schedule if there are no posted parking signs.
