Sparwood apartment complex moving through council

Sparwood council will be considering a development variance permit (DVP) to allow an affordable housing apartment complex.

Council has authorized staff to notify affected properties that the DVP will be going through the council approval process, which would include removing the minimum unit sizes and reducing the minimum lot size for a multi-family development at 441 Pine Avenue.

This is Phase 2 of the Timbers affordable housing project, with Phase 1 was completed in 2023, where a similar sized apartment was built.

“This is the site of the next phase of an affordable housing development. The land is currently owned by the district and a lease for the land will be presented to council in the near future,” said planning and development director Patrick Sorfleet.

“It’s planned to be a 32-dwelling unit multi-family apartment building with a range of bedroom units.”

If approved, the apartment will be made up of four one-bedroom units, 18 two-bedroom units and 10 three-bedroom units.

A public hearing will take place in a future council meeting.
