Cranbrook Council will begin 2025 budget deliberations in a special meeting on Wednesday.
The city is currently expecting an 8.59 per cent tax hike to maintain the same level of service in the community, compared to last year’s tax increase of 8.31 per cent.
Council has tasked staff to find ways to hold it to a five per cent increase, which will mean cutting some services or upping fees.
The city put out a public survey in September to gauge what services residents would be okay with reducing.
“This budget year is going to prove to be one of the most difficult this community has seen in a very long time and this survey and the results from it will help us ensure we are very clear on the needs of Cranbrook ahead of this fall’s budget talks,” said Mayor Wayne Price.
The results of that survey will be discussed in tomorrow’s meeting.
Council will also hear from a number of city departments including the RCMP, public works and fire and emergency services to go over capital projects for the next year.
Budget deliberations will begin at 12 p.m.
