RDEK Board Chair and Vice Chair re-acclaimed

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) will have the same Chair and Vice Chair for another year after they were both acclaimed into their roles.

Electoral Area C Director Rob Gay will serve his 14th term as Chair.

“It’s an important job and I spend a lot of time at it. We work collaboratively very well, so I’m very proud of this board,” said Gay.

“Our Board is highly effective and a big part of that successful working relationship lies in our collective effort to be collaborative and respectful of differing opinions. This makes for good, well-rounded discussion and decision-making.”

Gay has been on the Board since 2005 and has become the RDEK’s longest-serving chair person.

“I think it’s important to have some consistency in the Board,” said Gay.

“We have some goals and a strategic plan and we’re going to keep working towards that.”

Electoral Area F Director Susan Clovechok was re-elected by acclimation as Vice Chair.

I have a good working relationship with the RDEK’s staff and board, so I’m really quite keen to continue developing those relationships,” said Clovechok.

“Having those relationships makes sure that when you differ in opinion, you can still have a cordial collaborative conversation and work towards a common goal. In my experience, we often agree on the end result, we sometimes differ on how we get there.”

Clovechok will serve as Vice Chair for a fifth year.

“Over the past four years, I have deeply valued the learning opportunities I have had, not only in this capacity as Vice Chair but from my fellow directors around the table who are all strong leaders in their communities,” said Clovechok.

“As Directors, we are not directly involved in day-to-day operations; however, my background in organizational operations has given me the ability to draw upon my experience in organizational efficiency when appropriate to contribute to the continued excellence of the RDEK.”
