The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is looking for public feedback on its Climate Action Plan.
The public input will be brought to the board of directors for consideration in the creation of the final version.
“The Climate Action Plan will establish objectives and action items the RDEK can take to increase our resilience or reduce the impacts of climate change in both our corporate operations and, in some cases, the broader community,” said RDEK Board Chair Rob Gay.
“While the plan is the focus of this engagement, working toward climate resilience will take a collective community approach, so having ideas and input on this draft from the wider community is an important piece of this process and our future actions.”
The final version of the Climate Action Plan will operate as a guide for future Board decisions.
“Consultant firm Pinna Sustainability has been hired to develop the Plan, which is intended to set targets to reduce community and corporate greenhouse gas emissions; identify actions in key areas that will set out how the RDEK will help meet these targets; and, identify actions to help the community become more resilient to changes in our climate,” said the RDEK.
“It will also provide guidance on the expenditure of the RDEK’s Local Government Climate Action Program (LGCAP) funds.”

The feedback deadline is noon on Monday, December 2, with the results presented to the board on December 13.
