Rockets go on the road, look to build off weekend split

The Golden Rockets are looking to string together some wins as they head on the road.

The Rockets are coming off of a split weekend, where they beat the Spokane Braves 5-1.

“I thought we had a really good team game,” said head coach Jed Houseman.

“We were paying attention to the details and it was great to finally create some offence. It was good to get the back of the net going there.”

They weren’t able to get the win the next day losing 6-4 to the Quesnel River Rush.

“I think our guys need to do a better job of being disciplined when things don’t go our way. We out-possessed them with the puck and outshot them,” Houseman said.

“Sometimes you deserve a better fate, but we do need to clean up our D-zone. A couple of times we let guys penetrate the house and it ended up in the back of the net.”

He says they need to fight hard this coming weekend against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks and the Nelson Leafs and find a way to get some wins, despite being lower in the standings.

“Beaver Valley is as advertised, they’re in the upper echelon of the league and we have to be ready to come out and play a solid 60-minute game. They’re tight-checking and defensively sound,” he added.

“Nelson we’ve seen already once. It was early in the year but they’ve been pretty well rounded this year. It’s another one where we need to find a way to win. They’re ranked higher than us but we can go in as underdogs and play a hard game.”

The Rockets are 3-5-2-2 on the season and fifth in the Eddie Mountain Division.
