The Cranbrook Bucks were able to split their weekend back-to-back against the Okotoks Oilers to maintain second place in the Interior East division.
The Bucks started the weekend at home where they lost in a close 3-2 game.
“I liked spurts of our game in both games,” said head coach Ryan Donald.
“I felt like Friday night we were a bit complacent in certain areas and it came back to haunt us.”
He says they followed it up with a much better effort in a 3-0 win in Okotoks.
“Saturday we definitely corrected a few of those things we addressed on video and talked about,” he added.
“We played a much better game, our special teams were better and as a team as a whole we were just better and a little more connected and coordinated.”
He says goaltending was obviously a key factor as they got the shutout.
It’s hard to miss Jaden Cholette on Saturday who got his first career shutout in the BCHL,” he said.
“Keeping them off the scoreboard and having that level of goaltending behind you was great to have.”
The Bucks are home for both games this coming weekend as they host the Sherwood Park Crusaders and Spruce Grove Saints.
Donald says both teams play a different style so they’ll have to adjust.
“Sherwood Park has a lot of skill and is a younger team. They’re a team that wants to create off the rush and play with some speed,” he said.
“Where I think Spruce Grove is a little bit older and a veteran hockey team who might be looking to be more physical.”
The Bucks are currently second in the Interior East division with a 9-3 record.
