‘Tried to be cute’ Nitros coach not pleased despite two wins

The Kimberley Dynamiters may have won both games over the weekend, but head coach Derek Stuart was not happy with how they played.

The Dynamiters defeated the Fernie Ghostriders 3-2 and the Kamloops Storm 4-3.

“The results are what we wanted but I didn’t like how we played in either game,” he said.

“Friday was far too many penalties and playing with fire. We stole one there on Friday and Sunday might have been our worst game of the year.”

Despite how the team played, Stuart says it is always nice to beat Fernie.

“Anytime you can beat your arch-rival it’s a good feeling at the end of the night, but we gave up far too many opportunities.”

The Dynamiters are at home this coming weekend welcoming the Williams Lake Mustangs and Creston Valley Thunder Cats.

Based on statistics, Williams Lake has a couple of good young forwards we need to look out for,” Stuart added.

“Apart from that, we need to get back to how we were playing a couple of weeks ago. We got a little too confident this weekend and tried to be cute. We need to get back to doing things simple and hard.”

With the weekend’s wins, the Nitros are now first in the Eddie Mountain Division.
