After opening up a 40-year-old time capsule in the spring, Sparwood council is looking at setting up a new one.
The capsule was placed in a wall in the Greenwood Mall back in 1984 and was opened up on March 19.
Council is looking to do their own capsule but is still hammering out the details.
The previous capsule was smaller and could only hold paper documents. Council is looking to do something larger allowing for more variety in what goes inside.
The rough plan is also to have it buried until 2067, which would be the 100th anniversary of Sparwood being incorporated.
The location hasn’t been finalized either but council wants it an open area so more people can attend the opening of the capsule.
“I’d like to see it buried in the ground where a lot of people can show up when they open the capsule, instead of in a building where people can’t really make it,” said councillor Chris Nand. “I want a big space.”
Staff will be looking at potential spots near the Sparwood Titan truck.
“As long as we put it in a place that someone will remember where it is in 43 years,” said Mayor David Wilks.
More communication on the development of the time capsule is expected to be ready in early 2025.
