Elkford welcomes new Chief Administrative Officer

The District of Elkford is welcoming Jeff McConnell as the community’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

McConnell brings a background in the public and private sector into his new role, having most recently served as Fernie’s Director of Corporate Administrative Services.

“I think we’re really going to do well with our staff under his leadership,” said Mayor Steve Fairbairn.

“McConnell is going to be the right person to be here moving us into the future as our community grows and changes.”

Fairbairn says the CAO plays a vital role in local governments, so making the right choice is critical.

“The CAO’s task is to implement the plans of mayor and council, and to make sure every project undertaken by every department in the district fits within our strategic plan,” explained Fairbairn.

“They make sure that agendas are done legally and be aware of the laws and legislations that impact municipalities, they interact with contractors. It’s a very all-encompassing role.”

McConnell will officially start as Elkford’s new CAO on November 4.
