Invermere seeing success with STR regulations

Invermere’s short-term rental bylaw is in full swing after regulations were put in place earlier in the year.

The new STR regulations came into effect in May and limit the number of guests and bedrooms among other rules.

There’s an eight-person limit for guests and anything more is up for council approval.

“Anything over that obviously has to come to council to discuss, look over and make a decision,” said Mayor Al Miller.

“It’s been going reasonably well, there’s a big balance between neighbourhood concerns and making sure we’re not creating a business strip or party strip in the middle of a residential neighbourhood.”

He says the most they will typically approve is 10 guests.

“So far we’ve been able to keep it to a maximum of 10,” Miller said.

“I’m really pleased about that and we want to make sure that balance is there. Hopefully, we carry on with a good uptake in applications and everybody complies properly.”

Business licenses with temporary use permits are required for the operation of short-term rentals in single-family residential and low-density residential areas.
