CFKR receives donation to grow Fernie Community Fund

The Community Foundation of the Kootenay Rockies (CFKR) received a donation of $2,894.92 to grow the Fernie Community Fund.

The donation comes from Ryan Frazer with Re/Max Elk Valley Realty and will be used to grow future grants.

“A local resident in Fernie has designated a future estate gift to go to the Fernie Community Fund, and part of their estate planning was selling their house,” said Lynnette Wray, CFKR Executive Director.

“Ryan Frazer learned about this estate gift and was so inspired by this that he decided to donate his agency’s portion of the commission of that sale to grow the Fernie Community Fund even further.”

Wray says donations to the CFKR’s various Community Funds support local organizations.

“We have the principal permanently invested and the interest from that fund helps us provide annual grants to local charities who are doing amazing work in our communities,” said Wray.

“Donations help grow that principal and that helps increase annual interest to provide grants to community groups.”

Wray says the CFKR’s model of funding ensures that organizations will have a stable and ongoing grant source.

“You only have to give that donation once, it’s going to keep on giving forever,” said Wray.

“It’s a sustainable charitable giving that has a long-term view. These funds are going to keep benefitting our communities for 20, 50, 75 or even 100 years.”
