Work on Kimberley’s Knighton Road rehabilitation project is finished and traffic can flow through once again.
The project involved a complete reconstruction of the road and its infrastructure along with a multi-use pathway along the entire length.
“Residents will know that it was not the safest road with the way it wound around the neighbourhood,” said Mayor Don McCormick.
“Given that we had to do the infrastructure replacement, we took the opportunity to straighten the road out so it’s much safer now.”
McCormick says the realignment came with a bonus for the city.
“The creation of three new residential lots was kind of an unintended consequence and benefit,” said McCormick.
“The city will be able to sell those and generate some revenue we can apply to future revenue.”
Work on Knighton Road started in early June and McCormick is pleased with the new pavement.
“This was one of several major projects the city conducted over the summer. They have all come in on time and on budget, so we’re thrilled with the progress our staff and contractors have made,” said McCormick.
The city says the project received support from the B.C. Active Transportation Infrastructure Grants Program.
