Ghostriders look to bounce back after shaky start

The Fernie Ghostriders are looking for their first win of the season against the Beaver Valley NiteHawks.

The Ghostriders lost both of their games last weekend 5-4 in a shootout to the Kimberley Dynamiters and 6-4 to the 100 Mile House Wranglers.

Head coach Chad Scharff says they need faster starts, but he likes the team’s fight.

“It was only the first weekend for us while other teams played the weekend prior. It allowed us to work out some kinks and I like the character in our group fighting back in both games we were down in,” he said.

“We found ourselves down 4-2 late in the third period against Kimberley and down 3-0 nothing early against 100 Mile House and found a way to fight back and make the games interesting.”

The Ghostriders’ only match this weekend is Beaver Valley on the road on Saturday.

Scharff says the NiteHawks are a strong opponent but they need to focus on themselves to get the win.

“They’re a good team and for us, I think it’s going to be a great challenge to try and get in the win column, but as we’ve stressed with our group over the last week is that the focus needs to be on us.”

Puck drop is at 8 p.m. Mountain Time.
