Rockies remain undefeated and atop the league standings

The Columbia Valley Rockies lead the KIJHL in points after another two wins over the weekend.

While they won both games in the opening weekend, head coach Tayler Sincennes says they were able to build off some mistakes in those games.

“I thought this weekend we really took a step in the right direction from the weekend prior,” he added.

“I thought we started both games out well, got on our toes early and got out to pretty big leads.”

They defeated the Chase Heat 7-3 and handed the Nelson Leafs their only loss with a 6-2 win.

He says there is still room to improve, but was pleased with the result.

“At times we were undisciplined or got caught up in the extracurriculars a little bit too much and gave both teams a slight opportunity to get back in the game,” he said.

“I’m happy with the outcomes and happy with the performances for the most part.”

Sincennes says no player stood out specifically but the team’s depth was on display.

“It was not one guy. Both nights we had all four lines score,” he said.

“We sat out some guys who were a little banged up and some of our older players and some of our younger guys came in and produced on Saturday night. Top to bottom our lineups produced, which is going to be important for our team going forward.”

The team is 4-0 to start the season and will now be heading on the road.

The Rockies will face the Castlegar Rebels on Friday followed by a rematch with the Nelson Leafs.
