City pleased with Rock the Kootenays success

This summer’s Rock the Kootenays festival saw a large number of visitors come to Cranbrook.

City staff say around 70 per cent of the concertgoers were from out of town.

Roughly 30 percent of tickets purchased were from Cranbrook residents, 30 per cent from Alberta and 36 per cent from other areas of B.C.

There were even transactions from Dubai, Japan and the United States.

Recreation and culture director Trevor Thors says local hotels, campgrounds, restaurants and businesses saw an economic boost and hosting the event wouldn’t have been possible without the community’s help.

“The success of Rock the Kootenays could not have happened without our many local businesses and those who contributed sponsorship and volunteer support to this event. I thank you very much,” said Thors.

“A huge thank you also goes to our staff for their strong efforts to help organize and support Rock the Kootenays. Putting together a festival like this takes an immense amount of work, with staff doing most of the organizing off the corner of their desks while managing their day-to-day activities. This festival could not have happened without them.”

The festival is already scheduled to be back next summer and will run from Aug. 8-10.

The acts for the event will be announced in December.
